Brief Description

The objectives of the National Strategy for Danish Humanitarian Action (2010-2015) are to save and protect lives, alleviate suffering and promote the dignity and rights of civilians in crisis situations; as well as to initiate recovery, build resilience to and prevent future crises by breaking the cycle between crises and vulnerability. Thereby, the Strategy contributes to improving human security and reducing poverty.

To this end, Denmark will with its partners reach out to the most vulnerable people in crisis situations, through:

  • meeting the immediate and early recovery needs of those affected by natural disasters and promoting disaster risk reduction, and
  • responding to the needs of people affected by armed conflict, and supporting prevention, resilience and early recovery efforts.

The Strategy refers extensively to the prevention of gender-based violence, including sexual violence and trafficking.
